About the Program
New Mexico’s public and charter school districts are essential to the success of the NM Student Connect program. By partnering with the schools, NM Student Connect can work to reach the students and teachers that need connectivity and devices by leveraging the insight and knowledge of those who know New Mexico students and their households the best—their schools.
Representatives from the NM Student Connect Help Desk are reaching out to superintendents state-wide to learn about the needs of each district’s and charter’s students as well as to provide details on how schools can support their students’ access to broadband internet via the FCC’s Emergency Connectivity Fund (ECF) and/or the Emergency Broadband Benefit (EBB) program this summer. An ECF Guidebook has also been developed to provide an in-depth overview of this program.
Across the country, many students that are able to connect to the internet at school are unable to get online when they return home. This “Homework Gap” means that learning stops when students leave campus. The Emergency Connectivity Fund (ECF) is a $7.17 billion program that will help schools close the Homework Gap by providing funding for devices and broadband connectivity purchases for off-campus use by students and school staff in need.
More details on the Emergency Broadband Benefit program can be found in the For Families section of this website.
NM Student Connect has developed a Toolkit of materials you can use to share information about the EBB program with students and their families. In the Toolkit, you will find links to videos, flyers, templates, and ideas that you can use to share details about how households can sign up for the EBB Program.
